First Generation Computers

The computers within the period 1951-58 are called as First generation of computers.

They used Vacuum tubes for circuitry and magnetic drum for memory.

They were often enormous and taking up entire room.
They relied on machine language. Their power consumption was very high. They produced large amount of heating on working.

UNIVAC and ENIAC are examples for first generation computers.
