Second Generation Computers

The computers of the period 1959-64 are known as second generation computers.

Transistors replaced vacuum tubes. Actually the invention of Transistors in 1959 leads to the second generation of computers.

Second generation computers moved from cryptic machine language to symbolic.
High level languages are also being developed, at that  time like the earlier versions of FORTRAN and COBOL.
These are the first computers those stored their instructions in their memory.

The heat production while working was reduced in comparison with first generation. The speed is increased.
