MICR


Magnetic Ink Character Reader is a system which can read characters printed in special ink.
Note that only some characters written in normal font can be read.

e.g. The characters written at the bottom of the bank cheque.

On reading, these characters are converted into computer into computer represented form and verifies with the pre-written format.


Advantages:

It offers greater security than OCR.
Here is no manual input, so errors are reduced.
Even if somebody written of magnetic ink character, MICR can read it.


Disadvantages:

Only certain characters can be read.
The number of different characters is very limited.
It is more expensive than direct data entry.
