Sound can be inputted into a computer by using microphone.
The input sound is converted into analog signal and then converted into digital signal.
The computers sound card does the conversion from analog to digital.
Advantages:
It is faster to read in text than writing it in using keyboard.
Its the base of voice recognition technology.
Disadvantages:
Sound files can use a lot of computer memory.
Some times it may be less accurate than typing with a keyboard.
